A Day as a Behaviour Therapist

A Day as a Behaviour Therapist: Supporting Children and Families Across Sydney

Being a Behaviour Therapist means no two days are ever the same — and that’s one of the best parts of the job. Each child, teen, or adult I work with brings a new story, a new challenge, and a new opportunity to make a real difference in their life.

Whether I’m supporting toddlers in early intervention or teenagers navigating independence, each session is tailored to the individual. At Freedom Therapy Services, we’re proud to deliver personalised, compassionate care across Sydney — from our Caringbah clinic to home visits and school support throughout the greater region.

Every Client is Unique — And That’s What Makes It Special

At Freedom Therapy Services, our clients come from all walks of life. Some are just beginning their developmental journey in early intervention, while others are teens or young adults building independence. Each has their own way of learning, communicating, and connecting with the world.

One of the most rewarding parts of my day is when clients greet me with excitement. Therapy isn’t a chore for them — it’s something they genuinely enjoy. We might use play, games, or movement-based activities like Jenga, Twister, or even a spontaneous dance party. These moments of joy are more than just fun — they’re powerful tools for learning.

Progress is visible not only in the data but in the smiles, the confidence, and the genuine connection we build over time.

A Flexible Day in Clinic, at Home, or in the Community

Each day varies. Some days I’m in the Caringbah clinic, working alongside our fantastic Behaviour Support Practitioners and Psychologists. Other days, I’m driving across Sydney for sessions in homes, daycares, or schools.

These community-based sessions are incredibly valuable. They allow me to support clients in their most familiar environments, addressing challenges in real time and collaborating directly with educators or caregivers. Home sessions often feel warm and welcoming — many families make me feel like part of their own.

If you’re based in Western Sydney or the Sutherland Shire, we currently have immediate capacity for Behaviour Support and Psychology services.

Collaboration is Key to Growth

Therapy isn’t something we do to someone — it’s something we do with them. Collaboration is central to everything we do.

I’m lucky to work with a knowledgeable, multidisciplinary team. I learn so much from our Senior Behaviour Specialists and ongoing clinical supervision. We also regularly meet with parents, school teams, and other health professionals to ensure every client receives the best possible care.

This team-based approach not only builds my professional skills but also delivers better outcomes for our clients. We’re all working toward the same goal: helping each person thrive in their own way.

Why We Love What We Do

At the heart of every session is connection. We celebrate the little wins — a new word spoken, a moment of self-regulation, a task completed independently. These achievements might seem small from the outside, but they are monumental for the child and their family.

We also work with children with autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, and those navigating challenging behaviours. Each plan is tailored, strengths-based, and neuroaffirming — supporting the child as they are, not trying to “fix” who they are.
