Emergency services visual resource for kids, teens and adults

Visual: Emergency Services

What is Emergency Services?
Emergency services are the helpers we call when someone is hurt, in danger, or needs urgent help. In Australia, we dial 000 to reach Police, Fire, or Ambulance. Their job is to keep us safe and make sure people get the help they need quickly.
A visual guide can make learning easier by showing each step in a simple, picture-based way. When we see the steps — like finding a phone, dialing 000, and saying our name and location — it helps us remember what to do, stay calm, and feel more confident during an emergency.

Social Story: Emergency Services

Emergency Services Stories
Emergency services are special helpers who keep us safe when something dangerous happens. A social story can teach us what to do in an emergency by breaking the steps down into simple, easy-to-understand parts.
Social stories help people learn through repetition, clear visuals, and predictable routines. By reading the same steps again and again, people can practise what to say, how to stay calm, and what information to give when calling 000.
This makes emergency situations feel less scary and more familiar, helping people feel confident and prepared if they ever need to ask for help.

Sorting Social Emergency Scenarios

By looking at different situations and deciding if they are an emergency or not, people can practise problem-solving, build confidence, and understand the difference between dangerous situations and everyday problems. This helps us make safer, faster decisions in real life.
