Supporting Neurodiverse Learners Across Sydney
My mornings begin with a ritual I adore—early morning Pilates class, followed with a slow walk with my golden retriever puppy and a hot cappuccino in hand. we head out for a peaceful walk. I return home to get ready for a full day of doing what I love—supporting neurodiverse learners in building meaningful, joyful lives.
At Freedom Therapy Services, I work as a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) with a team dedicated to empowering young people with autism, ADHD, and developmental challenges. Whether in our Caringbah clinic, over telehealth, or in homes and schools across Greater Sydney, each day is filled with purpose.
Helping Early Learners Build Skills and Joy
By mid-morning, I’m at the clinic, greeted by the familiar buzz of kids, caregivers, and colleagues. My first session is with one of our early learners—an energetic little one who’s just beginning to find their voice. Today, we’re working on communication through play: pretend tea parties, building towers, giggles, and high-fives all around. Working with early learners is something I am super passionate about, and it is the best way to start my work morning.
Early intervention is key. Our Early Behaviour Intervention and School Readiness Program supports children in their foundational years. By targeting communication, play, self-regulation, and learning readiness, we give them the tools they need to thrive at school and beyond.
Collaborating with Allied Health Professionals
Afterwards, I hop onto a telehealth meeting with a speech pathologist—we’re syncing up goals, strategies, and celebrating some recent wins. Collaboration like this is essential, and it’s always rewarding to feel like part of a bigger team working toward the same goal.
These professional collaborations are essential. Working alongside psychologists, educators, and allied health therapists means our clients get cohesive, wraparound support. It also allows us to problem-solve complex behaviours and celebrate growth together.
Telehealth sessions also give families in regional or busy metro areas flexible access to services, something Freedom Therapy Services is proud to offer.
Building Social Skills with Primary-Age Children
Next, I take a much-needed break (and maybe sneak in a snack), then dive into a session with one of my primary school-aged clients. Today’s focus? Sentence formation and navigating social situations. We play conversation games, build sentences from story cards, and practice the subtle art of turn-taking and tolerating losing preferred games, such as UNO!
Behaviour therapy sessions aren’t just about reducing behaviours; they’re about building up confidence, self-expression, and relationships.
If your child is struggling with these skills, our Behaviour Therapy program may help. We personalise every plan to meet your child’s learning style and goals.
Supporting Teen Independence at Home
Later, I hit the road for an in-home session with one of my teenage clients. We’re working on texting appropriately and applying moisturiser—important steps toward independence. It’s amazing to watch teens build confidence in skills that empower them to express themselves through technology and care for their own wellbeing.
These goals might seem small to some, but for teens with autism or ADHD, they are powerful steps toward independent living. I love helping teens build these skills in environments that feel safe and familiar—at home, in school, or out in the community.
Our programs aren’t just for little kids. We support children, teens and young adults through transitions, identity formation, and adult readiness.
Why Behaviour Therapy Is So Rewarding
One of the things I love most about my job is seeing progress in real time—tiny breakthroughs that grow into lasting change. A child using a new word. A teen advocating for themselves. A parent feeling hopeful again.
After my day of sessions, I wrap up my notes and head home, where I’m greeted by my puppy Albert and my husband. We end the day curled up on the couch, enjoying a cozy dinner and a movie—recharging for another day of purpose-driven work and puppy cuddles.
